Buying and financing a vehicle

Financing that moves you. Auto Loans for every journey.

Buying a car is one of the biggest financial choices you’ll make. At FNCU, we want to help you feel confident and in control every step of the way. We understand it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or pressured into a deal that may not be right for you—but with the right preparation, you can take charge of the process, avoid costly mistakes, and drive away with a vehicle that truly fits your needs and budget.

That’s why we encourage you to follow a few smart steps to make your car-buying journey smoother, more informed, and far less stressful.

Step 1: Research Your Options
Before visiting a dealership, research the type of vehicle, features, and price ranges that fit your budget. Compare fuel efficiency, safety ratings, and resale values to make an informed decision. This knowledge also strengthens your negotiating position when you’re ready to buy.
Use our loan payment calculator to estimate what you can afford before buying.

Did you win a prize?

Scammers will say there’s a PROBLEM or a PRIZE.

  • “You’ve won a prize!”
  • “There’s fraud on your credit card”
  • “You owe taxes”
  • “Your tax refund is approved”
  • A ‘family member’ says, “I need money”
Watch out for these scams

When you get a call (or text), promising money, or the opposite – that you owe money, it may sound real, but chances are, it’s a scam. Here’s some tips on what to do:

Get some basic details, then hang up. What company are they calling from? What’s the problem? Then hang up. Yes, hang up.

Verify the story by contacting the company yourself. Do you have an account with the company the caller says they represent? Contact the company directly to find out what’s going on:

  • Do use the official app or website to get in touch with the fraud department
  • Do call the phone number on a recent statement or the back of your debit/credit card, if you have one.
  • Do not rely on top search results to find a company’s contact information—scammers often buy paid search ads so their fake numbers appear at the top of the listings.
  • Always talk to a trusted friend or family member. It gives you time to discuss the possibilities of whether or not it’s legitimate. And no legitimate fraud department will tell you to keep the call a secret.
  • No matter who says they’re calling, never share your personal or account information, don’t grant anyone remote access to your phone or computer, and keep account verification codes to yourself.

Scammers will PRESSURE you to act IMMEDIATELY.

If you think it’s a scam, report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Your report helps stop the scammers.

Scammers tell you to PAY in a specific way.

For more advice, visit How To Avoid Imposter Scams. If you spot a scam, report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. The FTC uses reports to investigate fraud and bring law enforcement cases. Reports also help the FTC know what scams to alert people about, so they can protect themselves, their friends, and their family.

What our members are saying

“I have been a member of the credit union since I became an educator in the 70’s. Throughout the years, they have ALWAYS been exceptional! I can confidently say they truly put their members first. I have always been treated with the utmost respect and genuine care. I recently worked with them on a service I needed and the entire process was clear, efficient, and stress free. The staff took the time to explain my options, answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable throughout the process. They have always been my first call for a car loan, home loan, personal loan, savings account or any questions about finances. This credit union have consistently been amazing throughout the years.  Minnie R Dacus, PhD
