The Board of Directors is comprised of volunteers who represent the entire membership. The FNCU Nominating Committee has announced its nominations for the board positions. The nominees are Nancy Wallace and Julie Beers. These candidates are currently serving on the Board of Directors and have agreed to continue to serve if elected. Since the number of candidates presented by the Nominating Committee is equal to the number of positions to be filled, we are not seeking additional candidates at this time.
If you have questions about the election process, you may contact the Nominating Committee at: First Nebraska Credit Union, Attn: Board Nominating Committee, 10655 Bedford Ave., Omaha, NE 68134. RESERVE THE DATE! Call (402) 492-9100 to make your reservation. (It’s not necessary, but it helps us make sure we have enough for everyone!)
Buying a car is one of the biggest financial choices you’ll make. At FNCU, we want to help you feel confident and in control every step of the way. We understand it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or pressured into a deal that may not be right for you—but with the right preparation, you can take charge of the process, avoid costly mistakes, and drive away with a vehicle that truly fits your needs and budget.
That’s why we encourage you to follow a few smart steps to make your car-buying journey smoother, more informed, and far less stressful.
Step 1: Research Your Options Before visiting a dealership, research the type of vehicle, features, and price ranges that fit your budget. Compare fuel efficiency, safety ratings, and resale values to make an informed decision. This knowledge also strengthens your negotiating position when you’re ready to buy. Use our loan payment calculator to estimate what you can afford before buying.

Compare fuel efficiency, safety ratings, and resale values to make an informed decision. This knowledge also strengthens your negotiating position when you’re ready to buy. Use our loan payment calculator to estimate what you can afford before buying.
Step 2: Secure Financing A pre-approval for an auto loan lets you know what interest rate to expect and how much you can afford. Plus it’s quick and easy – apply online today, or give us a call at (402) 492-9100, option 2. Although pre-approval is not required, we recommend it, so you can shop with confidence and save time at the dealership.
Step 3: Take Your Time Shop around to compare prices, inventory, and dealer incentives. Avoid impulsive decisions—patience can lead to better deals.
New Cars vs. Used Cars New Cars: Customizable, come with warranties, but depreciate quickly. Car loans for new cars often come with competitive interest rates, making them an attractive option for financing your purchase. Used Cars: More affordable, depreciate slower, but may require more maintenance. Consider the growing market for electric vehicles, which can offer long-term savings on fuel and maintenance.
Tools like Kelley Blue Book can help you assess fair market value.
Step 4: Negotiate the Best Deal Once you’ve chosen a car, be prepared to negotiate. A substantial down payment can improve your loan terms and reduce your monthly payments. Research fair prices ahead of time, and don’t be afraid to walk away if the deal doesn’t match your budget. Private sellers may offer lower prices, but purchases come without warranties or service support.
Step 5: Take Precautions Test drive the car and review its accident and maintenance history. If buying used, request a CARFAX report and consider a pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic to avoid hidden repair costs.
Step 6: Calculate Total Costs Lower monthly payments aren’t always the best deal—longer loan terms often mean paying more in interest. Consider the structure of your monthly car payment and explore refinancing options to reduce interest rates and overall costs. Be sure to ask FNCU about protection options, like extended warranties or GAP, so you can get the best deal on these benefits.
Step 7: Budget for Monthly Payments and Ongoing Expenses Factor in added costs like insurance, fuel, maintenance, and registration fees. A car’s sticker price is just the beginning—ensure it fits comfortably within your overall budget.
Need to Review Your Budget? A car is one of the biggest purchases you’ll make, and smart financial planning can save you thousands. We partner with GreenPath, and their financial counselors can help you review your current budget and discuss the best paths forward to make sure you’re on the right track. When you get a call (or text), promising money, or the opposite – that you owe money, it may sound real, but chances are, it’s a scam. Here’s some tips on what to do:
Get some basic details, then hang up. What company are they calling from? What’s the problem? Then hang up. Yes, hang up.
Verify the story by contacting the company yourself. Do you have an account with the company the caller says they represent? Contact the company directly to find out what’s going on:
Do use the official app or website to get in touch with the fraud department
Do call the phone number on a recent statement or the back of your debit/credit card, if you have one.
Do not rely on top search results to find a company’s contact information—scammers often buy paid search ads so their fake numbers appear at the top of the listings.
Always talk to a trusted friend or family member. It gives you time to discuss the possibilities of whether or not it’s legitimate. And no legitimate fraud department will tell you to keep the call a secret.
No matter who says they’re calling, never share your personal or account information, don’t grant anyone remote access to your phone or computer, and keep account verification codes to yourself.
Scammers will PRESSURE you to act IMMEDIATELY.
If you think it’s a scam, report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Your report helps stop the scammers.
Scammers tell you to PAY in a specific way.
For more advice, visit How To Avoid Imposter Scams. If you spot a scam, report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. The FTC uses reports to investigate fraud and bring law enforcement cases. Reports also help the FTC know what scams to alert people about, so they can protect themselves, their friends, and their family.

What our members are saying
“I have been a member of the credit union since I became an educator in the 70’s. Throughout the years, they have ALWAYS been exceptional! I can confidently say they truly put their members first. I have always been treated with the utmost respect and genuine care. I recently worked with them on a service I needed and the entire process was clear, efficient, and stress free. The staff took the time to explain my options, answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable throughout the process. They have always been my first call for a car loan, home loan, personal loan, savings account or any questions about finances. This credit union have consistently been amazing throughout the years.
